This post is about keeping our collective appearances up so we lessen the chances of an attack in the future.

Attack?!? Yes, I know this is the Internet, and we certainly DO believe in freedom of speech-- in fact, we're counting on it! But there is some concern of a movement that may attempt to criminalize our activities.

The European Union has already outlawed hundreds of herbal products, to go into effect in 2011. I personally take Traditional Chinese Medicine everyday. This stuff is thousands of years old!

Couple that with recent efforts to outlaw vitamins, pass dubious Food Safety Bills, and make the whole world eat Genetically Modified Organisms, and you may just question those who are supposed to have our backs. However, we don't do political here, and for a good reason.

The world is rapidly changing, and Wild Food could become way more than a hobby for 6.9 billion fellow human beings. We would like to be there to help if it does. We may dance to a different drummer, but I think we collectively have a whole bunch of vision, wisdom & insight.

So, if we do tell you, ever so nicely, to knock off the political banter, drug references, x-rated commentary or some such, please remember that we are thinking with the big picture for the future, OK?

We don't even moderate the off-topic forum much, so take it over there if you must. (I did.) 'Nuff said. We're on a mission here!

I hope to have children posting on the forum also and chatting about the taste of certain Wild Foods. They are the teachers of the next generation. I can remember teaching classes using a paper plate, scored into 8 sections; one= dandelion two = clover, red and white leaves, three=plantain, short and long . four = violets , five= yarrow, 6 = chickweed 7 = strawberry 8 = pine needles. Of course, you could put whatever edible plants you know are nearby. Maybe starting the game with just 4 plants for younger children.
Show the sample leaves of each number, and tell them the nutrition, simply. Go over any other details necessary and then ask the children to go outside, fill each section with edible food.
Aside from racing outside, they raced in one by one and said here it is! I can't begin to tell you how fast these children learned the subject and were at rapt attention while I washed, patted dry, and woked the stir-fry lunch. Topped with Dandelion flowers, they ate every bite with gusto and wanted more! Of course, I had carob crabgrass muffins to go with the luncheon, topped with blackberry jam from last year. Make a game out of lunch! Know the foraging rules inside and out, and begin with the children doing something while they sit and hear your lecture.
This is an amazing time for homeschoolers, or weekend boredom. You are teaching them survival, nutrition, and a way to prevent obesity. We have so much to teach! Happy New Year

If I thought for days, I could not have said it better! This is why my son is in charge of the forum! Thanks, Eric. Exactly how I feel! I am definately on a mission ever since I stepped out of the woods and saw the problems coming our way. These problems are here now!
Using our free abundance growing in my own backyard is the closest I can come to the freedom I felt deep inside the other world on the homestead.
