Has anyone tried Johnson grass (Sorghum halepense)? [/quote Hello, I used to just dry Johnson grass seed tops and gtrind to flour. I was informed by a botonist that it might be better for me NOT to put the grass in my exhibits and books....reason why....Johnson grass, when BENT, tends to produce a harmful chemical gas and this happens ONLY when the grass in BENT. Siince the chemical it produces is a miniscule amount of cyanide, I chose not TO JUST PICK RANDOMLY THIS GRASS AND PROGRAM IT OUT OF MY MATERIAL. The chances the amount of cyanide in one or two BENt STALKS is so very miniscule, tiny, BUT, just the name of the gas produced, I choose NOT TO USE JOHNSON GRASS. You can reasearch this information from botanical grass encyclopedias. lINDA |
